Today is our 2nd fieldwork day! Some teams will go outside, and some will cook indoors. Each team will learn something new in their own place. There are many things you can’t understand until you try. Please challenge yourself and collect a lot of “evidence” (data).
Later, I will tell you some tips for making summaries and suggestions. First, find what people are having trouble with. Then, think about new ideas to solve those problems.
When we combine these three things — Adults’ ideas × Children’s viewpoints × Yawata’s uniqueness, we can create wonderful ideas that make everyone happy!
We used matcha, one of Yawata’s special products, to make matcha strawberry tarts. But the cooling time was too short, so the shape and taste changed a little when we took them home.
From that experience, we had a new idea. Next time, let’s try making pasta with bamboo charcoal!
We walked around the town to find out what kinds of trash were thrown away. After that, we made posters with the message “No Illegal Dumping!”
Next time, we will make one big poster by combining all our team members’ posters together.
We made strawberry milk so that everyone at school could enjoy it. We thought, “Kids love sweet things!” — so we made it sweet and tasty.
Next time, we will try to make original drink packs for our strawberry milk.
We visited the Yawatake Club at Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine. We saw how people make paper and toys from bamboo and learned about new ways to use bamboo.
We also tasted Hashiimochi, a famous sweet from Yawata, and did a survey about disaster prevention, bamboo tents, and local pride.
The high school team made a Disaster-Prevention Karuta — a card game with safety phrases about Yawata, arranged in Japanese syllable order (A to N). This game helps different generations learn and cooperate. We also visited the riverbank near the Local Learning Center to understand more about disaster safety.
Next time, we will clarify our goals and make better suggestions for the community.
October means Halloween!
The professor and senior students prepared a costume party, and everyone had so much fun! Students came wearing devil horns, ribbons, witch hats, and many other creative costumes. Some made real cosplay by mixing many items together.
The classroom was full of smiles! During lunch break, while everyone was laughing and playing, suddenly someone shouted, “Something’s coming!!” From behind the door appeared a third-year student dressed as the Grim Reaper! He gave everyone Halloween candies, and the room was full of joy and laughter!
